Located in the Florida counties of Flagler and Volusia is the beautiful city of Flagler Beach. The city has a total area of 4.1 square miles. 3.7 square miles of it is land and 0.39 square miles of it is water. The only portion of Flagler Beach in Volusia County is the subdivision of Ocean Palm Villas, this subdivision is located east of the Intracoastal Waterway.

Since it was incorporation in April 1925, Flagler Beach has developed into a very unique seaside community. It has six miles of uncrowded beach front and many great fishing spots including the Flagler Beach Municipal Pier. The city also has great restaurants with oceanfront dining, gift shops and various recreational facilities.

The history of this area began in 1909 when Issac I. Moody and J.F. Lambert formed the Bunnell Development Company and started selling parcels of land. Mr. Moody applied to homestead 169 acres on the island, east of the Intracoastal Waterway. Originally the area was called Ocean City Beach and it was developed by the Bunnell Development Company. The first home was built on the beach in 1914 and then a Casino was built in 1916 to attract more visitors to the area.

The name was change from Ocean City Beach in 1925 after the government rejected the request for a postal designation because there were already two Ocean City one in New Jersey and the other in Maryland. In 1925, the city was instead incorporated as Flagler Beach, in honour of Henry Flagler, and George Moody became the first mayor. Now that the area had the Ocean City Casino and Flagler Beach Hotel, the next major construction was the Flagler Beach Pier. Once these 3 attractions were completed it attracted residents from the major cities in the area and from the northern states. The warm sands and cool water at Flagler Beaches attracted residents and visitors alike. Today visitors come to this community to enjoy the many restaurants or just spend time fishing or enjoying the other water activities.
