Amelia Island is host to the annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival (more than 150,000 people visiting each May). The is an annual festival held in Fernandina Beach, Florida. The first festival, was originally referred to as the Shrimp Boat Festival and was held in 1964. The festival is normally held over the first weekend in May. Events and activities of the festival include vending of shrimp, seafood, display and sale of arts, crafts, collectibles, antiques, live music, the Miss Shrimp Festival pageant, a fireworks display, and a parade.

Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance

The Concours d'Elegance is a classic car charitable event held each year during the second weekend in March at The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island in Amelia Island, Florida. Concours d'Elegance (French, literally "a competition of elegance") is according to New York Times writer Keith Martin like a "beauty pageant for rare and elegant cars". Each entry is rated for authenticity, function, history, style and quality of restoration by a team of judges that includes specialists for each car type.

Judges select first, second, and third place finishers for each class in the event, and the judges confer the best of show award on one car from the group of first-place winners. In addition, a group of honorary judges typically individuals who have made significant contributions to the automotive industry or motorsport give subjective awards to recognize standout vehicles regardless of class ribbons.

Amelia Island Festivals

Amelia island is also host to various music festival throughout the year, these festivals include Amelia Island Jazz festival, the Amelia Island Blues Festival, and the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival. The Island is also home to the Amelia Island Film Festival. Amelia Island was the main filming location for the 2002 John Sayles-directed film Sunshine State. The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking was also filmed there in 1988.

Amelia Island Sports Activities

There are seven golf courses on Amelia Island. The Omni at Amelia is a resort featuring the Long Point Course, the Oak Marsh Course and the Ocean Links Course. The three courses were designed by Pete Dye, Bobby Weed and Tom Fazio. The Omni at Amelia island is located on 1,350 acres at the tip of a barrier island just of the Northeast Florida coast. The resort has luxurious oceanfront rooms, pools, spa, numerous dining selections and various family activities.

The Golf Club of Amelia Island is located at the Summer Beach Resort, the resort is set among the palms, pines and dunes of Amelia Island. This beach resort is located just 36 miles from Downtown Jacksonville. The resort features ocean view accommodations, biking, kayak rentals, multiple pools, tennis courts, a poolside snack bar and of course the on-site championship golf course.

Other golf facilities in the Amelia Island area include the Amelia River Golf Club and the Fernandina Beach Golf Club, known to locals as the "City Course".
