Keystone Heights is located at the southern end of Clay County in Northeast Florida. Keystone Heights is a small town with a quaint downtown area, surrounded by numerous lakes, parks and recreational areas. Keystone Heights is a bedroom community for the cities of Jacksonville and Gainesville. The town was originally called Brooklyn, but was renamed in 1921 by J.J. Lawrence, of Pittsburgh, Pa. The Lawrence family settled here and renamed the town in honor of his home state, which is called the "Keystone State". Keystone Heights was incorporated in 1925.

In 1924, the famous Keystone Inn was opened, the Inn is located across from the Keystone Beach on South Lawrence Boulevard. In the late 1940's and early 1950's the Keystone Inn was the focal point of many social activities in the community.

The city of Keystone Heights is surrounded by lakes but most people don’t know that the lakes do not have a creek or stream to supply them with water. These lakes are referred to as “seepage lakes”. This seepage comes from what is known as the Surficial Aquifer. The Surficial Aquifer gets its water from the water table and from the pressurized waters from the Floridan Aquifer and the Intermediate Aquifer. The Floridan Aquifer is a portion of the principal artesian aquifer that extends into Florida from several states and is composed of carbonate rock and located beneath the coastal regions of the Southeastern United States.

The lakes in Keystone Heights are unique, they serve as a mechanism that acts as a recharger for the Florida Aquifer by capturing rainfall and slowly seeping down into the aquifer.

Keystone Heights Lake Area

Keystone Heights is known for its multitude of parks and lakes. One of these parks is Keystone Beach at Lake Geneva. This facility has picnic areas that family can enjoy along the lake. Another facility is called Geneva Jungle at Lake Geneva, this is a 5,200 sq. ft. state-of-the-art playground. The Gold Head State Park has a variety of cabins available for rent, as well as picnic pavilions, nature trails, primitive camping, canoeing, kayaking activities, horse trails and wildlife viewing.

Twin Lakes Park is the home of the Keystone Heights Youth Soccer Association which offers youth of all ages the opportunity to join one of the many teams.

The City Keystone Heights also provides tennis and basketball courts for its residents, the courts are located behind city hall. Other activities available to residents and visitors are nature and bike trails, these trails stretch from the City’s Center to Gold Head State Park in the north, east and west along State Road 100.

Keystone Heights Golf

Originally called the Keystone Golf and Country Club, it is one of the top courses in Clay County, FL. First opened in 1928, this Semi-private club features 18 holes designed by Donald Ross. The course was converted into a 9-hole course and was renamed Lakeside Links Golf Club. The golf course features 3,214 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36. The course has a slope rating of 118. The golf course has a small community built around the course. Some homes overlook the beautiful fairways.
